After a successful edition in 2021, focused on the agritech area, the second edition of the Brazil-South Africa Cross Incubation Program will target the cleantech sector, especially in connection with the vibrant miningtech sector.
This project is promoted by the Innovation Diplomacy Program of the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and organized by the Science, Technology and Innovation Sector of the Brazilian Embassy in Pretoria in cooperation with the South African Embassy in Brasília.
This edition of the program has the participation of four prestigious innovation hubs in both countries: Mining Hub (BR), SUPERA Parque (BR), 4IRI (ZA) and ICRD (ZA).
Objectives
Being based on the concept of South-South cooperation, this initiative aims to connect the innovation ecosystems of Brazil and South Africa and expand the knowledge of local startups of both countries about internationalization, cooperation and sustainable growth.
The main focus of the project is fostering the connection between participants, motivating them to promote a dynamic exchange of business culture, and allowing for their development during the process.
Timeline
Given the multiple steps required in an engagement process for innovation to be established in different ecosystems, the program will consist of four phases:
Introductory Webinar and opening of the registrations for the program;
Virtual Incubation Sessions, organized weekly by the innovation hubs from the partner country;
Forum “Building Bridges”;
In-person visit and experience of the partner country market.
The introductory webinar took place on July 17, 2024 and it was feature a presentation of the four participating innovation hubs, the launching of the opening notice (T&Cs) and the registration for the program.
Thank you to all amazing companies interested in exploring the cleantech and mining tech international market across the South Atlantic. The opening session of this 2nd edition was a great success, with over 70 start-ups enrolling in the program. The organizing committee feels honoured by their trust and recognizes the exceptional quality of each participant. Selecting the 12 companies to join was both challenging and rewarding.

Welcome! The second phase is ready to begin. In November, the cross-incubation sessions will be held online, hosted by the Mining Hub, Startup Business Campus, Supera Parque, and 4IRI. Together, they will introduce each country’s innovation ecosystem and guide the companies to take the next steps in their internationalization journey. Ready for the next round?
